The cotton mill Dell'Acqua and mills

From mill to factory to public areas

Like all the textile factories of the early twentieth century, Brothers Dell'Acqua cotton mill was originally built by exploiting the mills along the river. The area on which the plant stood, demolished at the turn of the 1970s, has more recently been reused for public use, uncovering the river and reducing the slope of the banks.

The imposing iron hydraulic wheel of Dell'Acqua cotton mill, installed at the edge of the river, was the exclusive service of the plant.
On the area owned by the cotton mill there were formerly two mills called "del Ponte Carrato", already reported in 1594: a mill was owned by Maggiore Hospital of Milan, but rented and used by the Salmoiraghi Millers, while the second mill belonged to Don Antonio Lampugnani. Both mills were purchased in 1871 by Dell'Acqua brothers.
The area on which the plant stood, demolished at the turn of the 1970s, has more recently been reused for public use (garden, car park and court), completely removing the cover of the river that had hidden it for almost a century and reducing the slope of the banks.
