Description
The rebirth of an abandoned
area
Today only some facades on Sempione
Avenue and the route of the road that separated the
factories remain of the inmense Cantoni textile factory.
Cantoni street, now Barlocco street,
before the factory was demolished between 2003 and 2004.
In this area, before the founder of Costanzo Cantoni cotton
mill came into possession, there was a double mill, already
reported in 1772, owned by the Archbishopric of Milan and
the Count Giovanni Prata.
The mill was used mainly to grind wheat almost exclusively
for the benefit of the archiepiscopal canteen of Milan.
Later, between 1829 and 1839, it was incorporated into the
plant and then adapted with new technologies and finally
demolished for production needs.
