Description
From cotton to beer: the reuse
of a disused factory
A building courtain hides the big Bernocchi cotton mill, today largely disused, which stood along the river. Today a craft brewery gives life to its own part.
Bernocchi cotton mill was a big textile
company of Legnano that occupied areas previously affected
by mills. Founded in 1868 as a laundry with bleaching by
Rodolfo and Giuseppe Bernocchi, under the guidance of
Antonio Bernocchi, it expanded more and more until it became
an industrial powerhouse in the twentieth century. Today
most of its buildings are disused and abandoned or have been
razed, but the office building on Corso Garibaldi and other
buildings remain visible. Some of them are now home to other
activities, including a craft brewery, which has led to a
revival of the factory itself.
