Description

The crossroads for the three parks starts from the ancient Lazzaretto. Or: the ancient prayer place at the fork between the two lakes and... Its monsters

It was erected in the XVII century by Nerviano's community as an ex voto for the end of the plague, quoted by Manzoni, that depopulated Milan from 1629 to 1632. In this territory, it's one of the few monuments reminding to the tragic epidemic. Only in Nerviano the plague wiped out more tha one third of the entite population, at the time 1400 inhabitants, riducing them to 890 survivors. The Lazzaretto rised up on an untamed plot of land along the Olona, at half of the road to Pogliano (the lazzaretto was also needed by such community), owned by Olivetan monks and then donated to the Municipality during the erection of the church.

The church was begun around 1656 and built with the cooperation of the whole population, without particular noble subsidies, without the tutelage of the nobility; born-poor church it was realized with the offerings and with sweat and tears of poor people therefore more praiseworthy. Completely finished in 1663 it was consecrated on the 9th Septemper of the same year and dedicated to S.Gregorio Magno (Saint Gregory the Great) protector of the plague.
