Description

The water of the light-blue river irrigates the level ground

86 km long, it is an important irrigation canal completed in 1890 and designed by Lombard engineer Eugenio Villoresi, from whom it takes its name. It originates from the Ticino river, from the Pan Perduto dam in Maddalena, a hamlet of Somma Lombardo, and flows into the Martesana artificial canal near Cassano d'Adda. The Villoresi canal bridge in Nerviano allows the waters to cross between the Villoresi canal and the Olona river.
