Description
A
six century's history from the monastery to the
municipal hall
The
monastery was founded in 1465 by Ugolino Crivelli who
ordered the construction after some visions of the Virgin
Mary for forecasting him the premature death of his son.
The vicissitudes of the Order and the time are reflected
in the archuctectural structures of the complex, the
additions and modifications followed one another with
irregular pace and different tastes. The facade exposed to
the Olona lets distinguish the succession of different
age's structures: the cotto tondos recall the '400s in
Lombardy, the wrought iron of the balconies and the severe
string of the windows take back to the '700s. The
monastery stayed under the olivetan rules and hosted,
throughout the centuries, from a minimum of 7 monks to a
maximum of 14.
