Description
The Meraviglia Mill: between the past and the present
This mill, already registered in 1606, is now owned by the Meraviglia family who bought it in 1946 from the Melzi-Salazar nobles. For many centuries it was at the exclusive service of agriculture, milling cereals and producing flour for baking.
The mill,
already registered in 1606, today belogs to the
Meraviglias’, bought in 1946 from aristocratic family
Melzi-Salazar.
It has used only for agricoltural purpose for several
centuries, grinding grain and producing baking flour.
In the late eighties of the twentieth century, many mills
ceased activity because of the high cost of water use and
the advancement of new grinding technologies. The
Meraviglia mill also ceased its milling activity, becoming
a farm. Today, thanks to events such as the International
Competition Five Mills Cross Country and the event "Mill
Day", visitors are offered the opportunity to relive this
dream scenario and rediscover the traditions that
characterized the life of the past. The Cinque Mulini
Cross Country has been running uninterruptedly since 1933
and has the characteristic of crossing the ancient halls
of the millstones of the millstone. This makes it unique
in the world.
