Description
A noble Roman patrician named John, with
his wife, having no children, he decided to dedicate a church to the Virgin Mary.
A devotional legend tells about the Virgin Mary, who appeared to them in dreams
in the night between 4th and 5th August, informing them that would suggest the
place where they build the church. Even the Pope Liberius had the same dream and
the next day, having gone on the Esquiline, found him covered with snow. The pope
himself drew the perimeter of the building and the church was built at the
expense of both spouses, becoming known as the Church of Santa Maria "Liberian"
or popularly "ad Nives".
